It was developed by Brownie Brown and HAL Laboratory and released in Japan in 2006 where it sold incredibly well. The project was revived years later for Game Boy Advance along with a combined cartridge with ports of Mother 1 + 2. We got close back in the 90’s with the announcement of Earthbound 64, but the game wound up in development hell and was ultimately canceled altogether. What we really wanted was a localized version of Mother 3, which we’ve actually never gotten. Of course, being Nintendo fans, we’re never quite fully satisfied - especially when it comes to the release of classics. Earthbound Beginnings actually didn’t come to North America until 2015 when it was released for the Wii U Virtual Console.
It’s a localized version of the original Famicom Mother game (the very first game in the series). Unfortunately, the game sold poorly in America, but over the years it has become a cult classic with retrospective reviews praising its oddball humor and range of emotions.Įarthbound Beginnings actually the predecessor to Earthbound.
